ARTICLE REFLECTION 1

      OBESOGENIC ENVIRONMENT

In her article  ‘Supersize Me: It Is Time To Stop Blaming Fat People For Their Size’  Alison Moltuk argues that instead of blaming people for their overweight, health officials turned their attention to obesogenic environment which means a set of conditions that made gaining weight much easier in the last few decades.  The writer stated  the main reasons of obesity clearly in her article. According to the article, the number of obese people is increasing day by day. There are some main factors which cause this situation  in USA.  Food is cheap and plentiful thanks to the wide spread affluence and agricultural subsidies. Prevalent culture incites obesity because it leads to unhealthy form of life. Another reosan is lack of physical activity. I agree with the writer totally. The tendency to become obese is clear in these days. People consume fast foods excessively that cause to bad outcomes. In comprison to past, the number of parents working is higher and they have to leave their kids at home. They cannot find time  to cook and eventually rely on fast foods.  Secondly, because of technological developments, people can find cheap food. There is a redundance of food in USA. Finally, insufficient physical activity is a big problem for healthy. Schools should be more careful about this issue. Children should be encauraged to do sports.  To sum up, the obesogenic environment made gaining weight much easier because of technology, changing culture and lack of physical activity.

Dear Tuğçe,

Firstly, I liked your reflection  to the article about friendship. You stated your ideas clearly. Your language is clear. Secondly, I agree with you and your ideas. As all people cannot be same, all friends also cannot be equal. People  need all of them but not on the same plane.

It is good to read your articles.

Thank you!

Dear Orhan,

First of all, I think you made a good point. The topic you chose was an important value of Turkey or 'Turkland' like you said. I studied Arifiye Anatolian Teacher Training Highschool for one year.  It was a village institute at once. I can see their differences with normal schools clearly. I liked your article.

Thank you for your efforts.

HERE COMES THE RAIN AGAIN

I want to share with you one  of my favorite songs : Here comes the rain again. It is created by an English pop group ‘Eurytmics’.   Annie lennox and David A.Stewart  produced this beautiful song by working together. The theme is  a love that is very  platonic nd trajic. The song  portrays  the melancholy between thel over’s heartbreak and  the rain. After  Hypnogaja covered  it , Here Comes The Rain Again became popular around  the world especially in USA.

Here Comes The Rain Again Lyrics

Here comes the rain again
Falling on my head like a memory
Falling on my head like a new emotion

I want to walk in the open wind
I want to talk like lovers do
I want to dive into your ocean
Is it raining with you?

Talk to me ? like lovers do
Walk with me ? like lovers do
Talk to me ? like lovers do

Here comes the rain again
Raining in my head like a tragedy
Tearing me apart like a new emotion

I want to breathe in the open wind
I want to kiss like lovers do
I want to dive into your ocean
Is it raining with you?

Talk to me like lovers do
Walk with me  like lovers do
Talk to me like lovers do

So talk to me  like lovers do
Walk with me like lovers do
Talk to me like lovers do

Here comes the rain again
Here comes again now...

Thanks to this song, I believe that covers can be better than original ones. Only one negative  thing is that this song makes me cry easily. It is like a depression machine. To sum up,  I strongly  recommend  you to listen this piece.

WIKI COMMENT 2

Gaziantep is one the most beautiful cities in Turkey. I think you made a good choice. I like your sub-categorization.The song, picture and video good. It is fun to read your text. It did not bore me. Especially the cuisine part is very very and very excellent. After I finished contextual grammar works, I want to go to Antep and forget everything :) Thanks for your efforts.

EVALUATION TO OUR WIKI

Different cultures always attrack my attention, so  searching their customs and traditions was a pleasure for me. I learned new things about especially  Africans, their customs, somethings unique to them. I had information about other continents' wedding customs. It was entertaining and informative. Working with my friends is also beneficial and delighting. We shared our knowledge. Our wiki project made a great contribute to our general knowledge. I think visual elements are also related to topic. They provided visual richness to our project. I would add other continents' cultures and customs if I had a chance, but would be too wide.

             PABLO PICASSO
Pablo Picasso was a Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, and stage designer.  He is my favorite painter as you all know. I love intoducing him to eveybody.

Picasso made valuable contributions to art throughout his entire

life, but it was the invention of Cubism that secured his

immortality

At the tender young age of 9, Picasso completed his first painting: Le picador, a man riding a horse in a bullfight.

In this article, I want to share with you some interesting facts about him.

Firstly, his first words were "piz, piz", which is short for "lapiz", the Spanish word for pencil. He  was born an artist.

Secondly, his name was Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santísima Trinidad Martyr Patricio Clito Ruíz y Picasso. He was named after various saints and relatives. The "Picasso" is actually from his mother, Maria Picasso y Lopez. His father is named Jose Ruiz Blasco.

Lastly, his car still exist.   This is not exactly his car. Last year, 44-year-old mechanic Andy Saunders of Dorset, England, spent six months converting his old Citroen 2CV into a cubist work inspired by Pablo Picasso.

AND GUERNICA…

It is very beautiful and meaningful picture.  I admire Picasso’s painting skill and  sensibility whever I see Guernica. He cretaed Guernica after Spanish Civil  War. Picasso portrayed war’s cruelity voluminously.

        TV SCATTERS YOUR TIME

One of the ways many people choose to relax and have fun is watching TV. There are  more than one TV in almost all houses today. In our country, a number of people watch 3.7 hours of TV per day according to the research of Radio and Television Supreme Council ‘Tendency To Watch Television-3’ . However, this common and indispensable habit has some negative effects on the viewers. Hence, the time spent in front of TV should be reduced to put down these adverse effects
Excessive TV watching  harms people socially.  Firstly, the violance showed on TV has some bad effects on people especially on children. The head of Radio and Television Supreme Council Prof. Dr. Davut Dursun stated that a 14 year old child sees approximately 100.000 violation acts and 8.000 death scenes for his/her life. Exposed to this severeness so much, it is not an abnormal thing for them to resort to use violence. Secondly, because of the time excessively spent on TV , people may not find time for socialization. The relationship between the members of a family may be damaged. Instead of other good habits like reading, dancing or doing sports, people reduce quaility of their time.
I strongly believe that the worst thing  about TV is indoctrination. The news and other TV programs generally mislead people.  Partisans try to impress their own ideas on the viewers and TV is the easiest way to mold watchers brains into whatever the Government wants, making them incapable of thinking for themselves.. Partisan media  brainwashes TV watchers with news and other programs so that they lose their own ideas and start to think like they hear from people on TV. Thus, people  pick up behaviour and ideologies from what they watch, and it alters the way they think. Spending  hours in front of a tube, our minds become little more than a recording machine waiting for imprints.
Spending so much time in front of TV also harms people phsically. One of the biggest illness is increasing obesity among people who consume large amounts of unhealthy foods such as chips and soft drinks while watching TV. According to the article ‘Television Watching and “Sit Time”’ published by Harvard University ,  television causes obesity risk, and reducing screen time is an important target for obesity prevention. Secondly, sitting a long time motionlessly  also damages immune system. Deterioration of eyesight may occur  and excessively watching TV leads to some sleeping problems like imsomnia.
Some people may argue that watching TV is good for people. Supporters of this view may say that  television does not have a negative impact on people because everyone chooses to watch a show whether it is appropriate or inappropriate, yet I should say that it does not always work like that. For example, while we watching television, we are exposed to advertisements and, as we all know, advertising sector is not under the control of watchers. Some people also say that television may be used for teaching. As Nicholas Johnson said, “All television is educational television. The question is: what is it teaching?”. People learn violance, immorality, and strong desire to consume etc.. These are what television teaches us.

To  sum up, watching too much TV is bad for people obviously. They should put a limit to time they spent on TV to minimize the harmful impacts. Instead  of sitting on a machine all day, you can do more beneficial things like reading, painting or travelling. There are  some lists like ‘100 things to do instead of watching TV’ on the internet. I strongly recommend you to look at them.

                                             MY NAME IS EARL

I want to  share with you my new favorite TV serial ‘My Name Is Earl’.It is an American television comedy series created by Greg Garcia that was originally broadcast on the  NBC television network from  2005 to 2009, in the United States.  My name is Earl is about a man who makes a lot of bad things and tries to fix them. He believes that there is something  as ‘ Karma’ and as long as he goes on doing such bad things, it will kill him. According to the karma,  if somebody makes good things, good things happen in turn. Then, he makes a list of his bad actions up to now. With his brother, he is very childish and I think it makes him  very cute, he finds people to whom he harmed somehow. When it comes why I liked this  TV serial and wanted to share with you, I think it is a good one because  it is realistic. Earl, the main character, does not become a marvelous man immediately. He tries to be a good man but also there are some challanges like money, women, alcohol.. I wonder if he can finish all item on the list. I recommend you to watch ‘My Name Is Earl’ at least you can take a look at to trailer. I assume you will like characters, and I am sure you will like conversations and relationships among them.

Jason Lee plays as Earl Hickey. He is the main character. He was a former criminal, but after discovering the concept of karma, decided to make a list of everything wrong he ever did in his life and make up fot them one by one. He has helped many people over four years of following karma.

Ethan Suplee plays as Earl' brother Randy Hickey. He is my favorite. He helps his brother to comlete the items on the list.

Here is the list.
